Vintage 56cm Carlton Flyer 22" x 22.5" Path Racer Track Bike Frame & Fork
Vintage 56cm or 22" x 22.5" Carlton Flyer Path Racer Track Bike Frame & Fork that has been Restored and looks to be from the late 1950 to 1960 and suspect 1958. The Size is: Seat tube 54.5m Center to Center or 56cm Center to Top with a 57cm center to center top tube. The Head tube is 130mm. The 1" Threaded Fork has 95mm Spacing and the Frame Rear has 110m Rear Spacing. The Wheel base appears to be 39 3/4". The Frame and Fork's clearance is for 27" Wheels. The Frame and Fork are Reynolds Steel 531 Tubing with Flyer Lugs. The Frame and Fork look to be a Street Version Track Bike or Path Racer with tabs for Mud Guards / Fenders, I assume one is for a reflector, and has pump mounts. The Bottom Lug is odd pipe fitter looking lug with a oiler hole and I think it may take a Chater-Lea oversized bottom bracket. I think the Serial # should be on the Rear drop outs and may be polished off in the re-chroming, The Bottom Bracket does have a number that looks to be DR23 but that may be a lug number. The bottom lug says Car Brittan DR23 Made. Frame and Fork is Restored, It Looks Nice, it's Pretty but is a Repaint, Re-chromed Frame with Purplish Color Paint, The Paint work is Nice and I am a painter and can tell Quality. It's a Good paint job but no body work was performed, this means that some pitting can be seen though the paint. The Pros: are still nice looking and lighter weight, The cons: not perfect paint although body work would of added weight. This is the result of saving what appears to be a frame that was in rough shape. I can tell you it's happier now for the Restoration. The Decals have some slight movement from there age from the paint curing, frame may have a clear coat but it is not over the decals. I did not do the paint work just giving you my professional opinion of the work. Still took close to a Grand of restoration costs between re-chroming and paintwork. The Frame does have a few minute nicks and tad of rust at the breather holes. Plenty of Eye Candy Pictures to mull over. Frame set appears to be early Carlton predating the Carlton built Raleigh Era. The Frame and Fork was part of a large collection that was in Atlanta Georgia and now is in Colorado and for sale. This frame is for 27" wheels and tires, Not Included but for wheel size reference, and possibly available in our Pricetronic store.
