In 1909 Rose O'Neill had a dream about plump little creatures she called Kewpies, They were a baby version of the god of love, Cupid. Kewpie® first appeared as illustrations in the December issue of Woman's Home Companion and was an immediate success. Shortly thereafter Rose began receiving letters from children asking for a Kewpie® they could hold. After numerous prototypes the Kewpie® doll was born in1913 and to this day remains enduringly popular. Rose O'Neill was a remarkable turn-of-the century illustrator and artist, as well as a great philanthropist, poet and novelist. Kewpie® is truly a collectible doll originally sculpted by Joseph L. Kallus and produced by the Cameo Doll Company.
